Casino chips have been manufactured from a varied range of materials in an almost endless assortment of variations since the advent of wagering and the need to keep track of winnings. The most common materials used at present in the manufacture of cutting-edge poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the bunch, have been manufactured in America since the late 19th century.

Back in the 19th century, poker players appear to be using any tiny valuable item you can imagine. Early poker players sometimes employed rough gold pieces as well as chips – primarily made of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs started to employ a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with engraved slits to keep them neatly arranged together.

There is little doubt that poker has increased steadily in popularity since its origin in the 1800s. With the huge advancement of web gambling and specialty TV shows, community appeal in poker has feed the fire more rapidly than ever before. Most folks are initially introduced to poker by television showslike "Celebrity Poker" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will participate in their initial hands online. Regardless of web poker’s rise, nothing replaces the feeling of mixing weighty clay poker chips in your hand, throwing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
