Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
