Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed taking part in numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to play some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he would play countless hours and don’t win most times. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he might boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.
The real improvement in his abilities began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would frequently play against each other. Howard had access into several of the best players in chess. With their help, he would hone his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the next decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
